AlphaO From Hayah Urban Fashion

The Hayah Urban Fashion store showcases trendy designer clothing for men and women. You’ll find loads of beautiful outfits by labels like True Religion, Live Mechanics, Rock & Republic, and others. Clothes, shoes, accessories, and jewelry; there, you’ve got everything you need to create a style that fits you.
As attractive as the Hayah store may be, I’d rather talk about AlphaO. Halima, the owner, stylist, and innovative designer behind Hayah Urban Fashion, designs the exclusive, and proudly Nigerian AlphaO brand label. The latest collection of corporate shirts celebrates the famous saying ‘there is beauty in simplicity’. I know that line is a cliché, but even though it has been said to death, a lot of people still don’t understand it. These AlphaO shirts are ‘casual, slim fit, dressy, and official with a simple philosophy behind them- practicality in simplifying style’. I tell you, T.M. Lewin has got nothing on these!
Please feel free to contact Hayah Urban Fashion via mobile: +2348037044606 or via email: fashion@hayahng.com. If you’re in Abuja, you can visit the beautiful store at Suite C02, Maitama Shopping Mall, Maitama, Abuja, Nigeria.

Take The Advice Or Not?

I had this idea (bright or not) to occasionally ask a few questions. I’m asking because being the extra smart gal I am, I really can’t figure these out myself, so I would love opinions from as many people as possible.
Do you think Nigerian entrepreneurs should take advice from foreign ‘experts’? I’m sure we can’t even count how many books there are about business and entrepreneurship. They’re legion! It’s like an in thing now; everybody is yapping about it. Gone are the days when your future ambition was to work as a manager in General Motors or something. Now, it’s more glorifying to be an entrepreneur; to go through all the sufferhead of running around looking for capital, clients, and managing your own thing. I bet the early days would seem like you’re running the race in a dark tunnel, looking longingly towards the bright light at the end. Me too I want oh. I want to be a sufferhead, suffering for myself, and running eagerly towards that bright light ahead; that bright light where the grass is green with money, everyone calls me ‘Ma’, and I can say ‘mmmh, I feel like New York’ and the next day I’m there hehe.

But part of that race in the dark tunnel is looking for advice so that we don’t stumble much. We look for advice so we can learn from the people that have fallen before us, and from the people that have learned the what and what-not-to-dos. An extremely large percentage of those advices come from foreigners, mostly taking inspiring examples from America. But can foreign advice translate meaningfully to the Nigerian environment? I don’t know. You know how our darling country is, with its good and bad. What do you think?

In case you didn’t notice, I’m leaving y’all to come up with the answers hehe :D

I.O.N: Our Very Own Goldsmith

Now be honest, how many bonafide goldsmiths do you know in Nigeria? Actually, when i think of goldsmiths or blacksmiths (or anything -smiths) i imagine dirty fat men working with furnaces. Now though, the word association in my head has been shattered by I.O.N. because Ibironke Nihma Oduniyi, the creative brains behind the company, is stylish, creative, and a real artist. She is establishing herself in almost uncharted territory. Everything she makes is originally designed and handcrafted.
Ibironke creates these stylish and original jewelry using precious metals (like gold and silver), semi precious beads and Swarovski crystals (ahem...don't know what these are but they sure look nice). Don't be surprised if a few years down the line, I.O.N will be the most famous original precious metal jewelry  designer in Nigeria. I'm rooting for it.

You can contact I.O.N via email: itsallaboutfarah@gmail.com; and via mobile:  +2348085836502 and +2348185011897. Follow her on Twitter too.

A Burst Of Colour From The Colour Couture

The Colour Couture is owned by Marion Sikuade. With just a glimpse of her jewelry, you’ll be enamored by the burst of colour. And please, who doesn’t love colour?! She handcrafts each and every one of them, and very lovingly too ;) The Colour Couture hosts a lot of jewelry made from gemstones, but it still gives off the sense of our African heritage. Everything, from the boxes to the jewelry inside, is simply lovely.
You can get yourself, or a friend, or yourself and a friend (heh), a burst of colour from the Colour Couture store, and blog (there are some interesting stuff about gemstones here too). You can also find tips on how to take care of your jewelry here. And if you want to be a little bit more intimate, she's on Twitter too. So please, check her out!

Status Updates From Thots On Tees

You know how obsessed most people now are with status updates? - from Facebook, Twitter, Linkdin, Yahoo, to Blackberries. Well, Michael Chibogx takes status updates offline- on Tees. His custom-made Tees business, Thots On Tees, was actually one year old on Valentine's day. Now how romantic is that? lol. He's a pretty fun and humorous guy; and you can see how that fun attitude translates to his business. Michael is actually Lagos based, but he delivers wherever, and he has had quite a number of exhibitions. (Apart from coming up with humorous 'status updates', he brands as well.)
Come to think of it, i bet these tees would be a real conversation starter. For all us you shy people, i recommend it lol. Just walk into a full room, stand in the middle, and shoot your chest out so that all can read your tee. Aha!

Eye Candy From Mode Chronicles

My very first feature is the talented and beautiful artist of Mode Chronicles. She obviously loves art and although she once tried to run away from it, it ran  right after her and caught her again! I think she really likes watercolor (err...i think).  Whatever she uses though, i'm hearting her collection. You can see that she has fun while she's creating these lovely pieces.
Check out these sexy mamas lol. I'd so love to have an entire collection on one little wall at home. I also absolutely love the tote bags in her shop.

Say Hello To The Corner Shop

Hello! I thought my first post should be a little introduction about The Corner Shop! Nigeria is full of Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (SMEs). So many Nigerians are talented, creative, hardworking, stylish, and truthfully, fun! The Corner Shop is taking advantage of that and featuring these stylish and hardworking entrepreneurs. If we're lucky, we could get professionals in the business sector to tell us a thing or two.

Even though this blog is work for me, I hope it will be a fun journey for both of us, and i'm looking forward to meeting all of you! Please feel free to comment. In fact, if you do, i'll grovel at your feet!
